Hi, I'm Alex and I joined Derbyshire FRS in 1992 at the tender age of 24 years old. I started life as a Firefighter and have worked my way up the ranks to Group manager. At the moment, my role is head of the Performance Management Function within our Strategic Development Division.

I always knew I wanted to join a public service and I chose the FRS because I liked the variety, the challenge and the opportunity to make a difference to people's lives. My favourite part of the job is using the professional skills I have learnt over my 18 years service. Every day I look forward to going to work – how many people can say that?
