Faz Patel
Name: Faz Patel
Role: Community Fire
Safety Practitioner
Duration: 4 years

Hi, I'm Faz and I joined the Fire Service back in 2005. I joined because I wanted to make the communities of Lancashire safer and meet people from all walks of life. I love my job and being part of such a diverse workforce is great. Best bit so far? Being awarded an MBE by the Queen for my services to the community.

Sian Butler
Name: Sian Butler
Role: Equality and Diversity Officer
Duration: 2 years

Hi, I'm Sian from the Northamptonshire FRS. Over the years I've tried many different jobs – from a training scheme at M&S to face painting in a children's fun factory. But none of them really engaged me. I'd always wanted to work within the community and managed to get a successful programme called Ladz 2 Dadz up and running, but it ran into funding issues.

When a position for the role of Equality and Diversity Officer in the FRS came up, I jumped at the chance to join. Working for an established and well respected service with prospects is great. I'm exposed to a range of roles within the service – even Firefighter. And with High Potential Schemes and investment in your future, the service is a place I never see myself leaving.

I was employed on my ethics, commitment and passion. And I feel valued everyday.

Sagal Jama
Name: Sagal Jama
Role: Bilingual Community
Fire Safety Advocate
Duration: 5 years

Hi, I'm Sagal Jama and I'm a Bilingual Community Fire Safety advocate for Merseyside FRS working with the Somali community within Merseyside.

I've been working for the service since 2004, before that I worked as a software developer and a voluntary interpreter.

The Somali community is one of the longest established minority communities in Merseyside. It's my role to make the services of MFRS accessible to the ethnic minority communities by overcoming the barriers of language, culture and religion.

My daily routine involves going into the community and assisting them to gain advice as well as carrying out household Fire Safety Checks.
